Winter of 2014 presented us with lack of snow, warm temps and rainy periods throughout the winter followed with a freeze-up before the race and hard packed trails as well as a dirt paths during the event. The course was ride-able for bikes and hard for runners for nearly the entire length of 1000 miles from Knik to Nome.
Records in both the foot division and bike division in the 350 mile and 1000 mile race were shattered including the overall 15 day Nome record from the year 2000 and the 350 mile records that were set just last year.
2013 was a fast year with new records.
This year was even faster with Kevin Breitenbach matching the dog mushing time by a musher with 16 dogs to McGrath!
